Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine what factors cause children to drop out of school at SD Negeri Saponda, Soropia District, Konawe Regency. This type of research is qualitative research. The method used in this research is observation, interview and documentation. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the factors that caused children to drop out of school at SD Negeri Saponda were (1) social conditions, namely that the majority of parents' education level only up to SD level affected the continuity of children's education; (2) the majority of parents' economic conditions are low so that children's educational needs are not fulfilled, parents are busy working as a result of neglecting attention to children's education; (3) lack of internal motivation, namely children are lazy to continue school, weak academic abilities and parents do not motivate children to continue their education. In addition, the most dominant factor that causes children to drop out of school is the family economy.
