Reconceptualizing the Role of School Committees in Enhancing Educational Quality: A Community-Based Governance Perspective

This study aims to describe the role of the school committee in improving the quality of education. The research is based on the fact that education plays a very important role in enhancing the quality of human resources and is integrated with the overall process of human resource development. One of the objectives of establishing school committees is to increase public responsibility and participation in organizing education at schools. This implies that community involvement is very strategic and essential, not only in terms of providing material support but also contributing ideas, innovations, and creative solutions for school development. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed in this study because the phenomenon under investigation is holistic, complex, and dynamic. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving principals, vice principals, committee heads, committee secretaries, parents, and teachers. The findings indicate that the school committee must establish strong relationships with schools and the community to represent the interests of students’ guardians effectively. Enhancing the socialization of the school committee’s role is essential so that the surrounding community better understands its functions and contributions toward improving education quality.
