Abstract

Higher education is a strategic space for social mobility, but opportunities to access it are still uneven, especially for migrant workers' children. This study examines the subjective experiences of migrant workers' children in Gumelar Subdistrict, Banyumas Regency, in pursuing higher education through a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman method with triangulation source validation. The results show that economic and social remittances are crucial capital for accessing higher education. Despite facing academic limitations, social gaps, and psychological pressure due to separation from their parents, migrant workers' children develop resilience through social networks and interpret education as a tool to break the cycle of poverty. Academic achievement is understood not as individual success, but as a form of repayment for parental sacrifice and collective family investment. These findings affirm the transformative function of higher education while providing an empirical basis for developing more inclusive education policies for migrant workers' children.
