Abstract
Mining activities, particularly in the gold mining sector, contribute significantly to economic development but simultaneously pose substantial environmental challenges, especially in wastewater management. This study aims to evaluate the quality of mining wastewater in the sediment pond at PT J Resources Bolaang Mongondow (PT JRBM) Site Bakan by analysing two key parameters: pH and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). A descriptive quantitative approach was applied, utilizing grab sampling methods followed by laboratory analysis in accordance with standard water quality testing procedures. The results indicate that the wastewater’s pH values remained within the environmentally acceptable range, suggesting effective neutralization through lime injection. Additionally, TSS levels were successfully reduced through physical sedimentation within the sediment pond. This demonstrates the combined effectiveness of chemical treatment and sedimentation techniques in controlling the quality of mining wastewater prior to discharge into the environment. The implementation of lime dosing and sediment pond technology has proven to be a viable method for meeting environmental quality standards as regulated in Indonesia. These findings underscore the importance of integrated waste management systems in the mining industry to minimize ecological impacts and promote sustainable environmental practices.
