Abstract

The achievement of the MDGs in Water and Sanitation in Southeast Sulawesi Province has reached an average national achievement in 2014. In drinking water, Southeast Sulawesi has reached 69.23% that is higher than the average national coverage of 68.36% while for sanitation, access to adequate basic sanitation services has reached 60.78% that is higher than the national average, which reached 61.04%. However, the evaluation results conducted in December 2014 indicated that the outcome of such development is still very low. Some factors affecting the low level development outcomes, among others, are 1) planning has not fully integrated all related aspects causing uneven distribution activities, some activities have not been implemented in strategic areas of national, provincial and district; 2) the unavailability of reliable water and sanitation database; 3) technical staff does not have sufficient ability in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This training aimed at improving the ability of the technical staff in planning the new development of water and sanitation facility, which is based on Geographic Information System (GIS). The approaches used in this activity are 1) Secondary data collected from Public Works Department of Southeast Sulawesi Province; 2) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training for the technical staff of Public Works Department of Wakatobi Regency. After participating in this training, participants have been able to use the basic facilities in the GIS application and able to produce a map of water and sanitation development in Kapota Island, Wakatobi.
